Sylvia Ann Brannin

Sylvia “Ann” Brannin, 88, of Old Town, Florida, passed away on May 13, 2026. She was born on August 23, 1937, to the late Perry and Mattie Lou Hill in Cross City, Florida, where she was raised. After marrying, she lived in several different places while her husband served in the United States Navy before eventually returning home to Dixie County. In her younger years, Mrs. Brannin was active in both basketball and the marching band at Dixie County High School, from which she graduated. After returning to Dixie County, she dedicated more than 20 years to the Dixie County School District as an elementary school teacher, touching the lives of many students and families throughout the community. Mrs. Brannin was also a member and Past President of the former Dixie County Women’s Club. She will always be remembered for her love of collecting carnival glass and arrowheads, as well as her enjoyment of camping and traveling, especially trips to the mountains during the fall season. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Brannin’s kindness, dedication to her community, and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Brannin is survived by her daughter Sylvia Hodge, her sons Anthony Brannin, Michael Brannin, and Glenn Brannin, her sister Helen Liles, her brother Sydney Hill, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Brannin, Sr, her sons Marvin “Sonny” Brannin and Carl Brannin, her sisters Sarah Roberts, Janice Parrott, Joyce Davis, and Elaine Beckham, and her brothers Gary Hill, Galen Hill, and Jerry Hill. Funeral services for Mrs. Brannin will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 18, 2026 at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Cross City Chapel with Chaplain Brian Shearer officiating. Interment will follow in Cross City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
