Susan Chewning Jones, 71, of Cross City passed away July 10, 2019. Susan was born at home in Cross City on December 27, 1947 to the late Marjorie F. Chewning and Hal Chewning, Sr and proudly remained a Cross City resident throughout her life. Following her heart's calling, she shared her passion for teaching in the school system and in helping to change and shape many of Dixie County's young lives through her guidance and counseling, ALWAYS being led first by her compassion and love for children, for over 30 years. Susan's Card Ministry was one of her own outreach programs, touching lives many times with her lovely words of encouragement at just the perfect time! For fun, Susan enjoyed traveling with family and friends, shopping locally and on “girls” trips, and of course totally immersing herself in a good book, being the avid reader. Her heart was always with her beloved husband, her wonderful children and her most precious grandchildren who affectionately call her Nanny. She is survived by her husband of 52 years Jerry Jones, Sr., her son Jerry Jones, Jr. (John Bass) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, her daughters Jennifer Johnson (Tank) of Cross City and Stacey Marlo (Chris) of Cross City, her brothers Hal Chewning Jr. (Helen) of Cross City and Maxie Chewning (Sue) of Cross City, her sister Pamela Hahn (Michael) of Tallahassee, FL her grandchildren Emily, Brian, Anna, and Sam Ellison, Jordan, Logan, and Kennedy Marlo, Miles and Ty Johnson, and Lyndsay Barber, other extended family members, and untold numbers of children to whom she will ALWAYS be "Aunt Susan." Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Cross City, with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Sink Cemetery in Old Town. The family will receive friends at their residence, 547 SE 71 Ave, Cross City, FL 32628, Friday and Saturday evening until 8 PM.
