Marie Sanchez-Day

Sybil “Marie” Sanchez-Day, 88, of Cross City, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2025. She was born on October 23, 1936, in Cross City, Florida to the late Louis Hamilton “Hamp” and Lessie Bond Herring. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her church family, and working with others and numbers. After finishing high school she worked at the Dixie County High School for some time. She worked keeping books for multiple businesses and enjoyed her job at the Dixie County State Bank before opening her own business. She opened an accounting and tax business that she operated until she retired. She also operated a florist, insurance agency and janitorial supply store out of her building. She enjoyed dancing and traveling in her spare time. She was a fervent believer in Jesus and was born and raised in New Prospect Baptist Church, which her father helped build and of that she was so proud. She could be found at church singing her hymnals anytime the doors were open. She is preceded in death by her parents; her significant other, Elden “Big Al” Fischer, and her 7 siblings, Bertha, Harold, Jacqueline, Minnie Lee, Herman, Leon and Thomas. She is survived by her children, Lisa (Tommy) Fowler of Old Town and Len (Jerilyn) Beckham of Cross City; nine grandchildren Laura (Matt) Goss of Old Town, FL, Steven Crane (Mindy) of Cordele, GA, Eli Fowler, Anna Fowler of Old Town, Fl, Jessilen (Travis) Tysall of Mayo, FL, Katie Riels, Savanna (Rance) Free, Chase Riels and Beau Beckham, all of Cross City , FL; and 7 great grandchildren, Chloe, John Henry, Ann Marie, Paisleigh, Turner, Terrilen and Morgan. To the caretakers that helped make the last few years of her life comfortable and enjoyable as possible, we will forever be grateful; Marcie Byrd, Gail Petty, Megan Cannon, Mattison Spurlin, Marissa Goff, Elizabeth Rood, Kassidy Carmichle, and Liz Norris. Services for Ms. Sanchez-Day will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at the New Prospect Baptist Church, Old Town. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at New Prospect Cemetery.
