Mamie Lou Futch

Mamie Lou Corbin Futch, 89, of Steinhatchee, Florida, passed away peacefully after an extended illness, surrounded by her family on Monday, April 15, 2024 at her daughter's residence in Lafayette County, FL. Mamie Lou was born in Dixie County, FL to Tom and Mamie Corbin on August 27,1934. She was raised in the Wilcox area of Gilchrist County FL. She married William Jesse "Bill Jess" Futch on March 29, 1952. Together the couple had 8 children and made their life and home in Rocky Creek, FL. Ms Mamie Lou was a faithful wife, mother, homemaker. She also served for many years as a bus driver for Dixie County Schools. She was a charter member of First Baptist Church of Jena where she was an active member of the church from its inception in 1977 until her health began to decline in 2022. She loved her family, her friends, fishing and good ol' gospel music, but above all she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her love and obedience to Him was evident to all those who knew and loved her. It shone through her service to others, the way she conducted her daily life, and how she did all things for His glory. She was the very definition of a Proverbs 31 woman. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Hicks of Rocky Creek, FL, Barbara Allen of Cantonment, FL, Elizabeth "Sang" Cranford (Keith) of Branford, FL, Rene Hoffman (Danny) of Steinhatchee, FL; and her only son William Jesse "Bill, Jr" Futch, Jr.; sons-in-laws, Rev. Jimmy Corbin of Mayo, FL and Douglas Lindsey of Citrus Springs, FL; she is also survived by her nieces (who were like her own daughters) Shelly Ross (Bebo) of Rocky Creek, FL, Flossie Riels (David) of Cross City, FL, Dot Futch Woods (Clint) of Dixie County, FL, and Clara Nell Polk of Cross City, Florida; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Ms. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Mamie Corbin, her husband, Bill Jess Futch, her sisters, Bertie Hines, Susie Mae Keen, and Pauline Ridgeway, her brothers, Hollis Corbin, Wallace Corbin, Barry Corbin, Buddy Corbin and Bobby Futch, Sr, her infant daughter, Billie Jo Futch, her daughters, Olif Jane "Rabbit" Lindsey and Delores Corbin, her sons-in-laws, Dennis Allen and Leon Hicks, her grandson, Logan Hicks, her granddaughter Luanne Hicks, and great granddaughter, Kasey Frierson. Funeral services for Ms. Mamie will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Jena, with Rev. Jimmy Corbin and Rev. Jeffery Vaught officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Steinhatchee. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
