Barbara Loretta VanDermark

Barbara Loretta VanDermark, 88, passed away peacefully at her home that she loved so much in Old Town, Florida. She was surrounded by her loving daughter, Linda C. Swann; her niece, Connie Stephens “Nurse” that took very special care of her; and her very Special sister-in-law, Mildred Tuttle, when she joined her Heavenly Father. Barbara bought her home from a very dear friend in Chiefland, Florida and had it moved to Old Town. She called it her sanctuary. She especially loved sitting on her front porch watching the birds, most of all the hummingbirds that she always fed and the beautiful cardinals she said were visitors from Heaven. She also enjoyed her flowers and it was a special treat for her to see the deer grazing and roaming by. She loved all the critters and wildlife. Barbara was the Rock of her family, always taking care of everyone else, more than herself. She loved everybody and had a heart of gold. She was a very faithful Christian special lady and a loving dedicated daughter, sister aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Barbara was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. At 18 years old, she went on a blind date with a Navy man on leave, Edward M. VanDermark, they married three months later and were stationed in Key West, Florida. After retiring from the Navy, they bought their first home in Hollywood, Florida and had three children where they stayed and raised them until they were grown. Barbara and Ed then moved to Avon Park, Florida and managed a campground, Lake Bonnet Village, where they used to camp at on vacations and eventually added on a mobile home park. From there, they moved to Old Town and retired where they also used to vacation. Barbara also went back to work managing Prairie Oaks Subdivision in Chiefland, Florida for approximately 10 years before retiring again. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. VanDermark, Sr.; sons, Edward M. VanDermark, Jr. and Craig Allen VanDermark; parents, Joseph Blease Tuttle, Sr. and Elizabeth Tuttle; sisters, Janice LaPorte and BettyAnn Tuttle; brothers, Kenneth Tuttle and J.B. Tuttle, Jr. Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Linda C. Swann; grandson, Matthew Edward Swann; great grandson, David James Swann; sister, Carroll (Jimmy) Stephens; brother William (Joyce) Tuttle; Special sister-in-law, Mildred Tuttle; a host of nieces and nephews and many many friends.
