Willie Eugene Hunnicutt Jr.

January 31, 1940 - May 25, 2022

Willie Eugene Hunnicutt, Jr., 82, of Cross City, Florida, passed away on May 25, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Macon, Georgia on January 31, 1940, to the late Willie Eugene Hunnicutt, Sr. and Orea Brook Hunnicutt. He has lived in Cross City for about 45 years. Willie served in the United States Army from 1958-1962 where he was stationed in Germany. Then, for 15 years, he worked in Georgia at Warner Robins Air Force Base. Willie also worked for the Dixie County Sheriff’s Department for 25 years, from 1984-2003. He was an avid wild game hunter, fisherman, and loved spending time with his family and friends. Willie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Theresa “Tootie” Burnett Hunnicutt of Cross City; his 3 daughters, Gena Hunnicutt (Victor) Stripling, of Ivey, Georgia, Janet Hunnicutt (Cliff) Clark of Vidalia, Georgia, and Jodie Lynn Mayo McCall of Cross City; son, Billie Joe (Amy) Mayo of Trenton; his 6 loving grandchildren, Michael (Cheryl) Stripling, Paige Hunnicutt, Cale McCall, Chance Mayo, Grace McCall, and Lilly Mayo; his 4 loving great grandchildren, Nathan, Autumn, Jayden, and Amaris Stripling; a loving and special aunt and uncle, Warren “Junior” and Margaret Price; his sweet mother-in-law, Alma “Pat” Driggers; 3 sisters-in-law, Virginia (Jerry) Martin, Carol Jean (Marlus) Gordon, and Edna Charlene “Charlie” Burnett; 2 brothers-in-law, Lloyd Henry (Tina) Burnett, and Odis Burnett; many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Willie is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Orea Hunnicutt; his grandparents, Ellis and Leola Horton; and 2 brothers-in-law, Thomas and Howard Burnett. Graveside services will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Old Town, Florida, at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 28, 2022. Arrangements have been placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Cross City Chapel, with locations in Cross City 352-498-5400 and Chiefland 352-493-0050.
