Marie Wright

January 21, 1945 - March 7, 2022

Marie Elena Hill Wright departed her earthly realm on March 7, 2022. She was born in Cross City, Florida, on January 21, 1945, to the late Ralph and Estelle Nettles Hill. She attended schools in Old Town and Perry, Florida, and Savannah and Valdosta, Georgia, before graduating from Dixie County High School in 1965. She attended North Florida Junior College in Madison for one semester. She lived in Jacksonville for about 25 years before she and her husband retired and returned to Dixie County in 2000 and have lived at Rocky Creek since. She was an avid jogger and, after her knees gave way, she walked a couple of miles almost every day. She would frequently encounter people throughout the tri-county area who did not know her but recognized her as the lady who was always pounding pavement on the Road to Nowhere. She enjoyed scalloping in the gulf and making wreaths with scallop shells and driftwood. Marie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cross City. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son William H. Wright II, and a sister Vonda DeLoach. She is survived by her husband Jimmy, sons Jason of Tallahassee and Tyson (Brooke) of Bradenton, sisters Marjorie (Lewis) of Bristol and Tallahassee, Sandra Forehand of Perry, and Reitzel (Darell) Roberts of Chattahoochee, brothers Kermit (Louise) of Perry, Terry (Michelle) of Texas, and Gilbert (Hazel) of Tifton, Ga. Funeral services for Mrs. Wright will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 10, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Cross City, with Pastor James Howes officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
