Alda Claire Thomas Griffin, 69, of Old Town passed away January 23, 2020. Alda was born September 1, 1950 to the late Horace and Mardrit Thomas in Alachua County. She graduated Trenton High School in 1968, where she was a star basketball player and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Florida. Alda taught Pre-K and Kindergarten for several years with the Gilchrist County School System and was a faithful member of Fanning Springs Community Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Nursery Worker. She was a sports fan, a big Gator fan, and was always involved in Church activities. Alda is survived by her son Jacob Griffin of Alabama, her daughters Allison Cooper (Travis) of Trenton, Amber Rollison of Trenton, and Pam Griffen of Ocala, FL, her brothers Doyle Thomas (Lorene) of Old Town and Don Thomas (Brenda) of Trenton, her sister Sue Landers (Joe) of Trenton, her grandchildren Mark Rollison, Luke Rollison, Branden Rollison, Haley Rollison, Shelbi Cooper, Kinleigh Cooper, Addison Cooper, Sophia Adams, Cacciotti Adams, Shanna Adams, Jake Griffin, and Carrie Griffin, three great-grandchildren, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Griffin and son Mark Griffin. Funeral services for Alda will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the Jonesville Baptist Church in Newberry, Florida, with Rev. David Jones officiating assisted by Rev. Cory Cheramie. Interment will follow in Jonesville Cemetery in Newberry. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 – 8 PM.
