Russell G. Seymour

Seymour, Russell G., 88, of Old Town, Florida followed hurricane Idalia on August 30, 2023 to the “Once in Blue Moon” and peacefully passed on. Born May 20, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Arliene and his namesake grandson 25 years, Jordan Russell Ward. In his younger years, Russ worked at Republic Aviation in New York until he joined the United States Coast Guard where he served our great country for four years. He continued his public service as a New York State Trooper for 20 years. First stationed in Long Island for five years, Russ and family relocated upstate in New Lebanon, New York. Russ could be found patrolling local Routes 20 and 22. During his career as a police officer he and his wife also invested and ran a breakfast and lunch diner named “The Diner” and a restaurant named “The Sandpiper”. A mobile fresh seafood stand rightly named “See More Sea Food” was a business he created and enjoyed. After retirement Russ and family moved to Florida where he lived in Homasassa Springs, Trenton, Fanning Springs, and finally settling in Old Town. Russ stayed active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Homasassa, American Legion Post 383, AM Vets Post 422 and the Suwannee River Moose Lodge 325. He was also known for his hobby of making great leather belts and traveling the USA Flea Market circuit in the summer with Arliene and the cats in their camper with their cargo trailer behind, escaping the Florida heat!! Russ is survived by, son, Russell W. Seymour (Tina Ellison), daughter, Jacqueline Keough (Dave Jones), daughter, Valerie Ward, cousin, Joyce Probeck (Grace) as well as six grandchildren, Matthew Seymour, Joel Keough, Brendon Seymour, Sarah Jones, Andrea Wisniewski & Dalton Ward. Russ also loved eight great grandchildren, Christian, Chelsea, Dakota, Derek, Kyleigh, Amelia, Bryson and Alani. A memorial service for Russ will be held at 12:30PM Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chiefland Chapel with Mike Fahr officiating.
