Cherry Underwood

Cherry Irene Parkerson Underwood, 90, of Gainesville, Florida went to be with our Lord on Friday, October 1, 2023. She was born on March 6, 1933 in Inverness, Florida to James and Leggie Parkerson. She moved to High Springs in the late 1940’s where she met and married the love of her life, Don Knight Underwood. She lost Don in 1998 after a long battle with cancer, two months shy of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They had five children raising most in the High Springs area. She enjoyed baking, gardening, her church, playing golf, playing bridge and family. She was passionate about her beloved High Springs GFWC, starting with the Junior Woman’s Club where she served in many ways including as President in both organizations through her more than 60 years of service. She was blessed with ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, all holding a special place in her heart. Cherry is survived by her children: Celia (Mac) Gravely of Yulee, FL; Beverly (Rusty) Curry of Altamonte Springs, FL; Donna (Elliott) Varnum of Tallahassee, FL; and Don Knight Underwood Jr. of Palatka, FL. Grandchildren: Celia Sue (Mark) Simmons of Ellijay, GA; Monica (Paul) Kolacia of Homosassa, FL; Brandi (Edwin) Collins of Tallahassee, FL; Jonathan Gravely of Pittsburgh, PA; Alex Underwood of Texas; Chase (Sara) Curry of Winter Springs, FL; Cody Evans of Arkansas; Elliott Varnum Jr. of Aloha, OR; Cassidy (Troy) Charles of Steinhatchee, FL; Casey (Giovanni) Felipe of Deland, FL. Along with her fifteen great grands: Courtney Manley, Jessie & Jordan Wheeler, Dawson & Morgan Balch, Troy Jr. & Kinsley Charles, Cody Evans Jr., Aria, Emery & Olivia Curry, Taylor & Harleigh Collins, Caleb & Abigail Underwood. She was Predeceased in death by her husband of 49 years Don Underwood, her daughter Debbie Evans, father James Parkerson, mother Leggie Chatin, sister Lucy Billups, brother Buddy Parkerson and 2nd husband Bill “Bumper” Watson. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 10th at 11 A.M. High Springs Cemetery, High Springs, FL. James Richardson, Pastor of Spring Hill Methodist Church presiding.
